Hygienic Menstrual Cycle Outreach

Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is a critical aspect of health education for girls, particularly during adolescence. During the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child every year, Treasured Points of Light Foundation organizes special outreach program aimed to empower girls by providing essential knowledge and resources related to menstrual health.

Importance of Menstrual Hygiene

Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) is vital for the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. Globally, over 800 million women are menstruating daily, yet around 500 million lack accesses to necessary menstrual products and hygiene facilities. Poor menstrual hygiene can lead to severe health risks, including reproductive and urinary tract infections, which may have long-term implications such as infertility.

Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management

The Hygienic Menstrual Cycle Outreach organized by Treasured Points of Light Foundation focuses on educating girls about menstruation, its physiological aspects, and proper hygiene practices. Many girls lack knowledge before menarche, leading to misconceptions and unsafe practices. These outreach events also engage parents, especially mothers, in breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and fostering open discussions about menstrual health.

Access to Sanitary Products

During the Hygienic Menstrual Cycle Outreach Outreach by Treasured Points of Light Foundation, girls in the community are provided with sanitary materials. Studies indicate that distributing sanitary pads significantly reduces the incidence of infections among girls. Many of the girls don’t go to school during their menstrual cycle to avoid the embarrassment that comes with a stained cloth which results from the poor method they have adopted. This is where the Treasured Points of Light Foundation comes in to provide proper menstrual education to the girls and also give them annual supply of sanitary pads.
